Monetize Your Contacts 2

Written by Uyoyou Christiana Charles-Iyoha

David was on a find and rescue mission without a clue as to how and where to catch up with the raiders who burnt down Ziklag and took hostage the women and children. As David and his men searched the wilds, they stumbled upon or I dare say God ordered their steps to a sick Egyptian slave of one of the Amalekite raiders who burnt down Ziklag. Abandoned because he was sick and too weak to cope with their pace, the young man lay helpless in the wild. Surprisingly, David and his men cared for the young man and when he was strong enough, he gave David and his men details of their raid and where the raiders were headed. With an exact description, David and his men pursued the raiders and caught up with them; and recovered everything that was stolen as well as additional bounty. The young Egyptian stuck with David.

Again the circumstances of their meeting were not pleasant. David was in search of his people; the young man was sick and helpless. But David showed compassion which the young man reciprocated with useful information that led David and his men to the people they were after.  David may not have monetized this contact literally because he cared for the man until he was sufficiently strong to lead them anywhere. Secondly, the young man could have been lying but David chose to believe him. Therefore, if you monetize what eventually accrued to David and his men through the information the young man gave which led David to the missing people, the destruction of the Amalekite raiders and the consequent seizure of the loot they had taken not only from Ziklag but other places, then it would be safe to conclude that David monetized this contact. This also implies that contact monetization is diligent work that is also synergistic. It is not dog eat dog, using people to achieve your goals without necessarily paying attention to their needs as well as meeting their needs. David and his men first cared for the young Egyptian and then subsequently pledged to save and keep the young man. It is akin to watching one another’s back or interest. It is extending generosity to one another. It is therefore not surprising that the young man stuck with David.

One way to monetize contacts is to genuinely care for people and reach out to them. David and his men were in a great hurry to rescue their loved ones yet they stopped to care for a sick man they did not know. Though it took time to nurse the sick man back to health, that time translated into great mileage for David and his men as it narrowed down their search. They had a clear idea of where to head for the marauders. Beloved, genuine care for people can move you up the ladder faster than you think as it makes you a blessing and when you are a blessing, the divine law of sowing and reaping works in your favor as you also reap blessings. Therefore, reach out to people no matter the situation you find yourself in. It is said that Christopher Columbus’ trip was eventually funded by the Queen of Spain after thirst led him to a monastery. The old monk who gave him water and to whom he poured out his heart was a personal friend of the Queen of Spain. The old monk convinced her to fund the trip. Be a blessing to people at all times.
