Leverage Strengths and Opportunities

Written by Uyoyou Christiana Charles-Iyoha

Your strengths constitute your competitive advantage; the divine edge you have over your competition. That is what separates you from the pack to give you advantages, edges, leverages, that you can always use to outbid and outshine your competition. Identify your strengths and the value of your strengths.

Opportunities on the other hand are platforms for you to showcase your strengths and be financially rewarded for your strengths. Opportunities could be created, identified or they could just come your way. Whichever, it is your responsibility to find them and take advantage of them.

The Apostle Paul took advantage of the interest shown him by the Epicureans and Stoic philosophers in Athens to preach the gospel. He was careful to refer to the inscription of the unknown God and centered his message on who God is and how God should be worshipped, Acts Chapter 17 verses 18 to 34. Make hay while the sun shines.

In Jesus’ discourse with the woman at the well in John Chapter 4, Jesus took advantage of the opportunity at the well to lead the woman to God. You can and should create a demand for your goods and services. After the woman found salvation, she became a powerful mouthpiece of the gospel that brought the men of Samaria to Jesus and consequently, the entire community to Jesus as they begged Jesus to stay with them.

In 2nd Kings Chapter 4 verse 7, the widow of the indebted prophet was instructed to – “Go sell the oil”. Go and search for the people who need the oil and sell to them and even if you have identified the people, take the goods and services to them. Do not wait for them to come to you. As they see the products and you the seller, they will buy.

Find financially rewarding platforms to share your timeless cutting edge resources, your strengths. Do not throw your intellectual properties/divine gifts to people who do not know their value. This is because they will treat both you and what you have to offer cheap. Also, engage in financially rewarding economic activities. These should be income generating activities packaged as consultancies. This implies that there are economic activities that are not financially rewarding. Your task then is to identify the economic activities that are financially rewarding and engage in them: also identify the ones that are not financially rewarding and let go of them.

Also leverage on the strengths of organizations and individuals that are supportive of what you do to get to where God wants you to be. You can find such organizations, individuals who may eventually become your partners online. There are quite a number of opportunities for collaboration online. All you need to do is find them and work with them as God would have you do. This is also a way of expanding your network; expanding your circle and sphere of influence. As you leverage on the strengths of other organizations, you are actually networking and collaborating, giving what you have in exchange for what you need. Break new grounds through networking and collaboration packaged as partnerships. This means that you do not trade your birthright – divine ideas and IPs for bread. Rather, they should be platforms and opportunities for collaboration and mutually benefiting partnerships. Those are the opportunities to leverage on.
