Invest in People

Written by Uyoyou Christiana Charles-Iyoha

The strength of a family, a Church, institutions, communities and nations are the people numbered with and committed to the family, Church, institutions, communities or nations. While brick and mortar as well as other resources matter, what really holds families,, institutions and nations together are the people. Therefore, primary investment should be in the people. Families, institutions and nations, who know and apply this supposedly secret; which indeed is an open secret are in the forefront of development and prosperity globally.

The late Sam Walton invested in people thereby birthing the ever faithful missionary customers of Walmart, the dedicated staff of Walmart as well as the suppliers of commodities. Sam loved people and made it a point to always invest in people. The result was that people shopped at Walmart; the staff of Walmart enjoy working at Walmart and giving customers the most unique but satisfying customer experience. Suppliers also enjoy supplying or distributing their goods to Walmart. Why? They loved and appreciated Sam’s concern and love for people. Sam enjoyed making people happy and it is no surprise that people made him happy and are still making him happy several years after his exit from planet earth.

People matter to God and anyone who puts people ahead of personal desires and profits is a friend of god. God demonstrated His love for people by sacrificing His only Son for the salvation and redemption of humanity, so that humanity can be free of satanic slavery and entrapments. God’s love for humanity governed the decision to give Christ for the world. Please see John Chapter 3 verse 16. In like manner, a person’s love for people and the desire to add value to the lives of people; to give people a better and richer experience on planet earth should greatly inform the quality of services rendered to humanity; the quality of products produced for people in addition to the way we handle the earth and the resources God blessed the earth with.

King Hezekiah of Judah loved the people he ruled over and invested in them; surprisingly not necessarily with material and financial resources though those came into play as well. King Hezekiah turned the heart of the people to God.

Jesus Christ invested in people – human capacity development. Some of the people He invested in were the ones who ran with the vision when He left the earth in His physical form for heaven. Jesus did not invest in brick and mortar. Neither did the apostles of the  early Church. Their primary investment was in people. Beloved, if you invest in people at any level, the people will stick with you and run with your vision even when you are no more. But if you invest in brick and mortar at the expense of the people given to you by God; your vision will likely die because brick and mortar goes the way of brick and mortar when there are no people to run with the vision.

Jesus had no material or financial resources so the question arises as to what He blessed the people with. What did He invest in the people that at the end of His tenure on earth, He could boldly say to God His Father that He did not lose any of the people God gave to Him except the son of perdition? Jesus invested the glory of God that was in Him in the lives of the people God gave to Him. In essence, He gave God to them by showing them the way to the Father and ensuring that they remained with and in God through constant encouragement, teachings. Significantly, Jesus stayed through to what He taught as He led by example and not by words. He did not give a set of rules to the people and lived the way He desired. Please see John Chapters 14 verse 6, 1 verses 1 to 18.

Beloved, it is great to be CEO, family head, community leader or national leader who invests in people. That way, you organization, family, community or nation grows in leaps and bounds because the people you invest in are the ones who will commit to growing and actualizing and expanding your vision. The implication is no human capacity development, no commitment; and it is not always that you need financial or material resources to invest in people. Show them that you care about their personal development and well being; and additionally share your vision with the people so they know what they are called to do. The decision to commit and run with vision is theirs and not yours. Your responsibility is to invest in the people. Invest today and create global wealth and development to the glory of God. God bless you as you do so. Shalom.
