Experience and Enjoy Greater Glory

Written by Uyoyou Christiana Charles-Iyoha

And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. The silver [is] mine, and the gold [is] mine, saith the LORD of hosts. The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts. Haggai Chapter 2 verse 7 to 9.

The Bible says that the glory of the latter house shall be greater than the former. This statement became necessary because the elders of Israel who saw the first Temple that was destroyed were not very happy with the new one.  The first temple was splendid, beautiful, and expensive, a masterpiece and fortunately the people worshipped God, praised Him from the depths of their hearts and His glory filled the temple. It was therefore a beautiful masterpiece crowned with the presence of God. Please see 2nd Chronicles Chapter 5 verses 12 to 14, 7 verses 1 to 14, Zechariah Chapter 8 verses 20 to 23, 14 verse 14Overtime, the people of Israel sinned and turned away from following God to following idols. God punished them and they were overrun by Babylon, the temple was destroyed and they were taken away from their land into captivity in Babylon.

When the seventy years of captivity elapsed, God raised Cyrus who then allocated resources for the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Work commenced immediately but the people who hated the Jews were opposed to the rebuilding of the temple. They fought against it after the demise of Cyrus and succeeded for a while. But God raised prophets who encouraged His people and eventually the temple was built despite the odds stacked against the Judeans.

But the new temple lacked the architectural masterpiece and the expensive décor King Solomon invested money in to give the temple its great splendor. Nevertheless, God chose to fill the latter temple that the elders who saw the first temple were not too happy about with His glory in order to make the temple the Desire of All Nations so that the nations would bring in their treasures to the temple. The glory of the Lord is the manifest presence of God and what gives splendor other than the presence of God. A beautiful or wealthy or intelligent person needs the presence of God because the presence of God is what makes a person and makes a person stand out. So also are structures and institutions.

Our bodies are temples of God and as we surrender totally to Him, He fills us with His glory and as our lives reflect His glory, people are attracted to us and what we do. That is how God makes us famous, takes us out of oblivion, obscurity, mediocrity, insignificance and servant hood to excellence, significance, honor, relevance, limelight and dominance.
